, the commander of u.s. and nato forces in afghanistan is now under investigation for alleged inappropriate communications with jill kelley. now investigators are said to be looking into the 20,000 to 30,000 pages of e-mails and other documents that he sent to her. kelley, of course, is the florida woman whose original complaint to the fbi about threatening e-mails inadvertently exposed the affair between general petraeus and paula broadwell. meantime a team of fbi agents searched broadwell's home in charlotte, north carolina, overnight, and spent nearly five hours there wrapping up just after 1:00 in the morning. "wall street journal" is reporting that the fbi agent who launched the petraeus investigation himself is under investigation. in part because he sent shirtless pictures of himself to jill kelley. jill kelley, the woman who kicked off all of this investigation, by complaining about the e-mails that she was getting from the petraeus mistress. so the agent, who knew kelley, allegedly sent those pictures before any investigation began, but as you can see, the story is getting much mor

entangled in the mess. he is the top u.s. commander in afghanistan, jeep john allen. eamon javers live in washington with details. >> reporter: well this scandal exploded on friday with the resignation of cia director petraeus. that one caught washington by surprise and then within the past 24 hours, the scape dal has got a whole lot big per, as you say, with now the involvement of the top general in afghanistan. let me walk you through who the players r it can be tricky to keep this cast of characters straight in your own mind. the woman at the center of this scandal seems to be jill kelly. she is a tampa socialite who volunteered at the air force base there and had some kind of relationship with jeep john allen involving e-mails. the fbi is apparently received 30,000 pages of e-mails between the two that were potentially inappropriate there. but kelly's relationship, whatever it was, with john allen, apparently also caused some concern with paula broadwell. broadwell is the biographer of general david petraeus, who has admitted now to having an affair with the cia director. that's br
u.s. facilities in benghazi. general petraeus was scheduled to testify this week. now, that as we know was derailed by the scandal. senator john mccain is one of several republican lawmakers remanding more information from the obama administration on just what the heck happened in benghazi and around benghazi. he's scheduled to give a news conference at the bottom of the hour and we are going to have measure on that. our dana bash has been doing the best she can to take in all of the information. listen, this is tricky. so many of these stories are interconnected. there is a lot of reporting. not all confirmed, but u maybe just start with this. how has this matter worked out that general petraeus will indeed show up on capitol hill and testify voluntarily? >> well, it started with the senate intelligence chairwoman, dianne feinstein telling us yesterday that that was her desire. in her words, that's a big stone left unturned if petraeus doesn't come up here and tell members of congress what he knew about what went on in benghazi, so that's where it started. then late yesterday, me
